S T A S I S explores utility. It is meant to calm, focus, and clear the mind. It is meant to be background music. It is not meant to draw attention to itself.

With S T A S I S I also sought to experiment scale in a musical work, without the ostentatiousness present in many live endurance pieces. Works like these of great scale, and the humanistic energy they inspire, provide a certain inexplicable sense of deep meaning. That meaning is in this case complicated by its technological origins.

Beyond utility and scale, this project for me served as a reminder of music's abstract nature. Though I might seek in many of my other projects to communicate concretely, there is a horizon beyond which sounds will always speak for themselves.
